Ever wondered what makes the Fire Bet in craps such a distinctive addition to the table? This side bet brings a different rhythm to the game by rewarding a shooter who strings together multiple unique points in a single turn.

This guide explains how the Fire Bet works, the typical payouts you might see, common misconceptions, and how it compares with other side bets — all in plain language so you can read through and feel prepared if you decide to try it.

What Is the Fire Bet in Craps?

The Fire Bet is an optional side wager offered alongside the main craps action. Rather than resolving on a single roll, it covers a shooter’s entire turn and pays when the shooter establishes a sequence of distinct points before their turn ends with a seven.

Only the first time each of the point numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is hit during that shooter’s run counts toward the Fire Bet. Because it rewards a streak of different points, the Fire Bet tends to pay out less often than standard bets but can return much larger sums when it does.

Availability varies between games and operators. If you want to try it, check the specific game rules and pay table for the version you’re playing.

How Does the Fire Bet Work?

The Fire Bet is placed before a new shooter’s come-out roll and remains active for that shooter’s entire turn until they seven out. As the shooter makes distinct point numbers during that run, each first appearance of a point contributes to the Fire Bet tally.

When the shooter reaches the minimum number of unique points required for a payout — commonly four or more — the Fire Bet pays according to the game’s pay table. If the shooter seven outs before that threshold is met, the Fire Bet is lost.

Because operators sometimes alter rules and payout structures, you should check the pay table in the game interface so you know exactly what to expect for that table.

Craps Fire Bet Rules Every Player Should Know

Before you place a Fire Bet, it helps to be clear about the main rules so there are no surprises during play. The bet must be placed before the come-out roll and applies only to the current shooter’s turn. Only unique points (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) count toward the Fire Bet; repeated hits of the same point do not increase your tally. Typically, a minimum number of different points — usually four — is required to trigger a payout, and payouts follow the table’s fixed pay schedule. Finally, the Fire Bet is separate from your mainline wagers and optional.

If you’d like to try this side bet, look at the pay table and rules for the specific game so you understand how that operator handles ties, pushes or variations in payout structure.

What Are the Payouts for the Fire Bet?

Payouts for the Fire Bet scale with the number of unique points the shooter makes during their turn. A typical pay table you might encounter looks like this:
